Technical Update
EDB Postgres Failover Manager 3.3

WHAT’S NEW
This update is notifying you of a new software release, EDB Postgres Failover Manager (EFM) version 3.3. Failover Manager provides high availability infrastructure for EDB Postgres clusters. Failover Manager monitors the members of a Postgres cluster, identifies and verifies database failures quickly and reliably, and if needed promotes a standby node to become the cluster master and issues alerts.

Highlights of this release include:
  • Integration with syslog for logging - Can now use normal file logging and/or syslog service.
  • Hostname for VIP - Can specify a hostname for the virtual IP address that is assigned to the master node (780874).
  • Automatic resume at startup - The auto.resume.period now applies to startup as well, making it easier to automatically start failover manager and the database at boot time. (781594)
  • Can disable VIP check before promotion - For certain environments, can have failover even if the master node still temporarily has the virtual IP address assigned.
Defects corrected in this update:
  • Use more fine-grained checks for database user privileges. With database versions 9.6 and higher, failover manager will check only for the specific permissions the database user needs to run. (796835)
