Technical Alert
SEVERITY
Critical

ALERT FOCUS
This alert is for customers using:
- EnterpriseDB Backup and Recovery Tool v2.0 and v2.1

RECOMMENDED ACTIONS
Status: Critical

Recommended: An issue has been found with the BART 2.0 and 2.1 incremental backup feature. Under an isolated circumstance, if the VACUUM command has been executed between the full backup and incremental backup(s), incremental backup(s) have been found to have data corruption. This causes an issue when doing a restore which has the data corruption issue and starting the database server using the restored cluster. This issue was found through the course of low-probability hardening tests and has not been observed in any customer environments to date.

WHAT IS IN THIS ALERT

This Technical Alert is notifying you of potential data corruption in incremental backup for EDB Backup and Recovery Tool v2.0 and v2.1. This issue can arise in certain isolated circumstances if VACUUM command has been executed between full and incremental backup(s).
It is recommended to perform a full backup as soon as practical and disregard any previous incremental backups.

A separate communication expected in the next week will have instructions for accessing the mandatory patch for BART 2.0 and 2.1. Included in this patch will be a tool that allows you to check if an incremental backup contains this issue.

After the mandatory patch is applied incremental backups can be performed as usual.

IS THIS ALERT FOR ME?
This alert is for EDB customers using EDB Backup and Recovery Tool v2.0 and v2.1.
