EDB Postgres Backup and Recovery Tool 2.4
WHAT’S NEW
This announcement is notifying you of a new software release: EDB Postgres Backup and Recovery ToolⓇ 2.4
EDB Backup and Recovery facilitates and automates complete hot physical backups of your PostgreSQL or EDB Postgres Advanced Server database. It is a centralized server that can connect to and backup multiple local or remote Postgres databases.
In previous releases, EDB introduced capabilities such as block-level incremental backup, policy enforced management and naming of the backup files, compressed storage, and low disk space alerts.
What’s new in this release:
- Users can now take multiple backups of PostgreSQL server versions 9.6 or higher simultaneously. If a backup is interrupted, it can be terminated automatically without the need to run the pg_stop_backup() manually.
- Support for native packages for Debian 9 and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
- The number of workers used for parallel restore can now be configured in bart.cfg rather than only on the command line.
- 'bart init' will now set archive_mode = 'on' if not already configured.
- If a user wishes to add a new server to BART without configuring archive_mode and archive_command on the server, 'bart init' may be run with the new '--no-configure' option.
- BART 2.4 now has a Quickstart guide. The guide enables users to install and configure BART, and take a full and incremental backup quickly. For details, please see the EDB Postgres Backup and Recovery Quickstart Guide.
- BART installation is now documented in a separate guide titled EDB Postgres Backup and Recovery Installation and Upgrade Guide to improve readability. Refer the EDB Postgres Backup and Recovery Installation and Upgrade Guide for details.
- Fixed multiple problems with parallel backups taken using the ‘tar’ format. [ BART-457 ]
- Removed erroneous sanity check that could cause restore failures. [ BART-359 ]
- Prevented wrong backupinfo file from being generated when a tablespace is dropped during an incremental or parallel full backup. [ BART-401 ]
- Prevented possible backup failure with concurrent relation drop. [ BART-436 ]
- In rare cases, a backup operation could report success and then also report failure; prevented that from happening. [ BART-406 ]
- Ensured a clear error message is displayed when an incremental backup is attempted on a standby server. [ BART-200 ]
- Adjusted order of arguments to ‘tar’ to avoid version-dependent behavior. [ BART-443 ]
- Allowed an incremental backup to be restored without specifying a restore path for tablespaces which had been dropped by the time of the incremental backup. [ BART-416]
- Fixed a crash in 'bart check-config' which occurred when the target directory is not writeable. [ BART-399 ]
- Ensured error is generated if integer-valued parameters in bart.cfg have invalid values. [ BART-115, BART-366, BART-269 ]
- Bart check-config now accepts wal_level = 'hot_standby' as a valid configuration. [ BART-422]
- Bart displays an error immediately when a non-integer compression level is specified, instead of after copying all of the backup files. [ BART-151]
- Fixed batch_size default so that it is consistently 3/8 of a GB in both the server and global sections [ BART-302 ].
This announcement is for EDB customers who are using:
- EDB Backup and Recovery Tool v2.0, 2.1, 2.2, 2.3
