Technical Update
 EDB Postgres Failover Manager 3.9

WHAT’S NEW
This update is notifying you of a new software release, EDB Postgres Failover Manager (EFM)
version 3.9. Failover Manager provides high availability infrastructure for EDB Postgres clusters.
Failover Manager monitors the members of a Postgres cluster, identifies and verifies database
failures quickly and reliably, and if needed promotes a standby node to become the cluster
master and issues alerts.

Highlights of this release include:
FeaturesBenefits
Reduce num_sync on primary - EFM can reduce the num_sync value for synchronous replicas when standbys leave the cluster so that the primary can still accept writes. The primary server is not locked, and remains available to accept writes even when synchronous standbys have failed or left the cluster.
EDB Postgres Replication Server Integration (EPRS)- EFM 3.9 includes features to work with new EDB replication server to allow clusters with a mix of physical and logical replication.Customers have the flexibility to use both physical and logical replication in the same Postgres cluster for high write and read availability.
Changes to algorithm used to select standby to promote -  When there are multiple standbys, EFM can promote based on current replay value instead of standby priority.Reduces the time needed to promote standby in cases where standbys are lagging behind the old master, which may occur when the promotion is based on predefined priority.
EDB Postgres Advanced Server and PostgreSQL v12 support on Debian/Ubuntu - EFM now handles database file layouts on Debian/Ubuntu installations.Adds support for Debian/Ubuntu

This release also includes fixes for the following issues:
  • A fix for ssl connections requiring hostname validation. 957322
  • Handling equals sign in recovery conf information. 963294
