Technical Update
EDB Postgres Advanced Server (Database Server 12.3.4)

WHAT’S NEW

This update is notifying you of a new software release EDB Postgres™ Advanced Server 12.3.4. EDB Postgres Advanced Server 12 is built on open-source PostgreSQL 12, which introduces myriad enhancements that enable databases to scale up and scale out in more efficient ways. PostgreSQL 12 builds upon the existing partitioning techniques by allowing faster partition pruning along with additional partition improvements, several btree index advancements, CTE inlining, SERIALIZABLE for parallel query and many new features and capabilities.

PostgreSQL has now introduced a common YUM repository, details of which can be found in this newsletter: https://www.postgresql.org/about/news/2027/

Highlights of 12.3.4 release include:
  • On Windows, OpenSSL 1.0.2v is supported.

  • The sslutils 1.3 version, which is a Postgres extension that provides SSL certificate generation functions to Advanced Server.

  • Enhancements implemented in clone schema 1.12  and parallel_clone 1.7.

  • Please note that this is the last release supporting UpdateMonitor and it will be deprecated from the forthcoming releases.

This update contains the following fixes:

  • DB-380 - dblink_oci: Add GUC to control the scan type for the remote statement.  New GUC edb_dblink_oci.rescan = {serializable | scroll}, will allow a user to choose the scrollable vs non-scrollable cursor. [#947738]
  • DB-435 - Fix dblink_ora_copy() when copying to EPAS table having ROWID. [#964115]
  • DB-409 - pg_upgrade: Ignore TOAST for partitioned tables. [#983824]
  • DB-362 - Fix server crash when an empty input string is passed to to_timestamp.  [#981139]
  • DB-187 - Do not push ROWNUM to the child scan/join targets paths and disable partition-wise aggregate when query has ROWNUM.
  • DB-319 - Median: Fix potential incorrect result or crash by switching to the right memory context.
