WHAT’S NEW
This update is notifying you of the new software release of Postgres Enterprise Manager (PEM) 8.0 from EDB. PEM combines monitoring, alerting, tuning, and database administration into a single GUI. This tool manages multiple open source PostgreSQL and/or EDB Postgres Advanced Server clusters.

Noteworthy new features and changes for the 8.0 release:
  • Webhooks provide automated, event-based alerts to keep third-party systems in sync.

  •  
  • The Performance Diagnostic tool is now certified to work with PostgreSQL 10+.
    NOTE: installation of the new edb_wait_states plugin for PostgreSQL is required
  • PEM Server (backend database) supports only PostgreSQL or EDB Postgres Advanced Server versions 11 or above.

Enhanced Alerting

  • Enhanced the placeholders for alert script execution. [Support Ticket # 1051538]
  • Added documentation for "How to replace alert placeholders inside script". [Support Ticket # 1051538]
  • Added alert details SQL for Alert errors, Table bloat, Dead/live tuples, and few others. [Support Ticket # 1065250]
  • Added alert details SQL for template 'A user expires in N days' [Support Ticket # 891377]

Alerts are more informative and contextual to help identify issues easily. Documentation will improve usability.

Enhanced BART Integration

  • Support new configurations of BART ('bart_socket_name')
  • Added support for ‘--checksum-algorithm’ and ‘--disable-checksum’ parameters introduced in BART 2.6.0
  • Fixed an issue supporting BART when installed on a custom location [Support Ticket # 1088574]

More efficient management and monitoring of EDB Backup and Recovery Tool (BART) via the PEM console.

PEM Security Guide 8.0

  • Documented security best practices for configuring Postgres Enterprise Manager

Provides recommendations for setting up Postgres Enterprise Manager in a secure way and minimize the risk of vulnerabilities.

Other features include:
  • Added Macro support in the query tool.
  • Added support to view trigger function under the respective trigger node.
  • Added support to download utility files at the client-side.
  • Allow the user to change the database connection from an open query tool tab.
  • Added support to rename query tool and debugger tabs title.
  • Added support for dynamic tab size.
  • Added tab title placeholder for Query Tool, View/Edit Data, and Debugger.
  • Added support to ignore the owner while comparing objects in the Schema Diff tool.
This release also includes fixes for the following issues:
  • Fixed an issue where connections were not getting released when the user disconnects the database server. [Support Ticket # 969833]
  • Do not include detailed alert information while sending SNMP traps. [Support Ticket # 1069206, # 1115277]
  • Fixed the issue of making two database connections for failed login attempts which result in locking the user profile. [Support Ticket # 1103288]
  • Documented while configuring the PEM Server, certificates must be present in the data directory of the backend database server in the installation guides. [Support Ticket # 729238]
  • Package deployment and streaming replication deprecation warning is added in Upgrade and Migration Guide. [Support Ticket # 1021617]
  • Ensure that some fields should be disabled for the trigger in edit mode.
  • Added a useful message when the explain plan is not used and empty.
  • Fixed an issue where file extension is stripped on renaming a file.
  • Ensure that the 'ctrl + a' shortcut does not move the cursor in the SQL Editor.
  • Fixed an issue where the validation error message is shown twice.
  • Fixed an issue where schema diff is showing identical tables as different due to default vacuum settings.
  • Fixed reverse engineering SQL where parenthesis is not properly arranged for View/MView definition.
  • Fixed 'can't execute an empty query' message if the user changes the option of Auto FK Index.
  • Fixed an issue where the server is not able to connect using the service.
  • Ensure that query history should be listed by date/time in descending order.
  • Fixed an issue where the 'PARALLEL UNSAFE' option is missing from reverse engineering SQL of function/procedure.
  • Fixed an issue where 'Rows X' column values were not visible properly for Explain Analyze in Dark theme.
  • Ensure that the user should be able to change the start value of the existing sequence.
  • Ensure that search object functionality works with case insensitive strings.
  • Fixed invalid literal issue when fetching dependencies for Materialized View.
  • Fixed an issue where the user is unable to change the macro name.
  • Fixed an issue where the suffix for Toast table size is not visible in the Statistics tab.
  • Ensure that macros should be run on the older version of Safari and Chrome.
  • Fixed an issue where a mismatch in the value of 'Estimated row' for functions.
  • Fixed an issue where non-closable tabs are getting closed.
  • Ensure that folder rename should work properly in Storage Manager.
  • Fixed an issue where a long file name is not visible on the process watcher dialog.
  • Fixed an issue where connection to the server is on wait state if a different user is provided.
  • Ensure that Grant Wizard should include foreign tables.
  • Fixed an issue where the debugger's custom tab title did not apply when opened in the new browser tab.
  • Fixed an issue where the dynamic tab title has not applied the first time for the debugger panel.
  • Added the appropriate server icon based on the server type in the new connection dialog.
  • Fixed an issue where the process watcher dialog throws an error for the database server which is already removed.
