Technical Update
 EDB Postgres Failover Manager 3.6

WHAT’S NEW
This update is notifying you of a new software release, EDB Postgres Failover Manager (EFM) version 3.6. Failover Manager provides high availability infrastructure for EDB Postgres clusters. Failover Manager monitors the members of a Postgres cluster, identifies and verifies database failures quickly and reliably, and if needed promotes a standby node to become the cluster master and issues alerts.

Highlights of this release include:
  • Fix for slow memory leak - A memory leak was found in a 3rd party library used by EFM. Over the course of 2-3 months with default memory settings, an EFM agent could run out of memory and fail.
  • New algorithm for choosing a standby to promote  - EFM now uses more information from each standby when choosing one to promote, helping to ensure that the one with the most data available to it is promoted.
  • Better Debian support - EFM can now run with database installations that have configuration files in a different directory from recovery.conf file.
Defects corrected in this update:
  • Avoid data loss by choosing standby with most data available to it [846940]
