The product portfolio at EDB has expanded and with that has introduced overlap and redundancy in the capabilities of some of the products. For this reason, we will no longer support or provide the following products for v14 of PostgreSQL or EDB Postgres Advanced:
1: EDB Postgres Slony Replication (Slony)
Slony is a primary-standby logical replication solution. It shares data in one direction only (from a primary node to a standby node), can be used in a cascading setup (a standby node may pass data to another standby node), and does not allow modification of data on standby nodes.
All capabilities as delivered by EDB Postgres Slony can also be delivered by our BDR Standard replication solutions, and Slony will not be supported for PostgreSQL or EDB Postgres Advanced versions v14 and later.
2: Backup and Recovery Tool (BART)
EDB Backup and Recovery Tool facilitates and automates physical backups of your PostgreSQL or EDB Postgres Advanced databases. All capabilities as delivered by BART can also be delivered by Barman and PgBackRest, and BART will not be supported for PostgreSQL or EDB Postgres Advanced versions v14 and later.
3: Installation with Limited Privileges (runasadmin)
The Windows platform has evolved, and with that the requirement for an installation with limited privileges has diminished and been replaced by the standard installation options. The runasadmin tool, which is used for installation with limited privileges, will not be available for EDB Postgres Advanced v14 or later. Please note that performing a minimal installation where only the binaries are installed without the post-installation steps, is still available as an option.
4: Python 2 has been sunset by the Python community on January 1 2020, and there will be no more improvements and security fixes applied on Python 2. The PostgreSQL community has not provided plpython v2 since PostgreSQL 13. EDB has deprecated plpython v2 with EDB Postgres v13. EDB will not provide plpython v2 with EDB Postgres Advanced v14 or later.
