WHAT’S NEW
This update is to announce the maintenance release of EDB Postgres Distributed versions 5.1.0.
EDB Postgres Distributed (PGD) provides multi-master replication and data distribution with advanced conflict management, data-loss protection, and throughput up to 5X faster than native logical replication, and enables distributed Postgres clusters with high availability up to five 9s.
Highlights of this 5.1.0 release include:
- Synchronous Commit is now available in PGD’s unified COMMIT SCOPE syntax. Modeled on Postgres’s legacy synchronous commit option, PGD Synchronous Commit allows DBAs to take advantage of the finer grained commit and sync management. The new addition complements the existing Group Commit, CAMO and Lag Control commit scope options.
- Fixes to priority-based proxy routing will enable better handling of failover. We recommend that any current deployments leveraging 5.0 upgrade to 5.1
- The grace period for proxies is now configurable through PGD CLI, allowing users to tune proxies' response to losing the Raft leader. To accompany that, Raft events are now visible in the PGD CLI’s show-events command, showing the event, source and subtype.
- Support for removing empty node groups has been implemented at the SQL interface with bdr.drop_node_group().
For more detailed information on all enhancements and fixes included in the release, please refer to the EDB Postgres Distributed Release Notes in EDB documentation.
The following EDB Postgres Distributed related components were also released recently:
- Trusted Postgres Architect 23.18
- EDB Postgres Distributed 4.3.1, 3.7.21
- Pglogical 3.7.21
- PostgreSQL 15.3 , 14.8, 13.11, 12.15
- EDB Postgres Advanced Server (EPAS) 15.3.0 , 14.8.0, 13.11.15, 12.15.19
- EDB Postgres Extended Server (PGE) 15.3.0, 14.8.0, 13.11, 12.15
EDB Postgres Distributed 5.1.0 depends on the latest minor version of EPAS and PGE (14.7 and 15.3) and will pull these in automatically during an upgrade. The latest minor versions of EPAS and PGE 12 and 13 are not required, but it is always recommended to use the latest Postgres minor version available and generally considered less risk than not upgrading.
Deprecation Notice:
Support for using EDB Postgres Distributed for multiple databases on the same Postgres instance is deprecated beginning with EDB Postgres Distributed 5 and will no longer be supported with EDB Postgres Distributed 6. As we extend the capabilities of the product, the additional complexity introduced operationally and functionally is no longer viable in a multi-database design.
