WHAT’S NEW

This update is to announce the maintenance release of EDB Postgres Distributed versions 5.2.0

EDB Postgres Distributed (PGD) provides multi-master replication and data distribution with advanced conflict management, data-loss protection, and throughput up to 5X faster than native logical replication, and enables distributed Postgres clusters with high availability up to five 9s.

Highlights of this 5.2.0 release include:

  • Parallel apply is now available for PGD’s Commit at Most Once (CAMO) synchronous commit scope and improving replication performance.
  • Parallel apply for native Postgres asynchronous and synchronous replication has been improved for workloads where the same key is being modified concurrently by multiple transactions to maintain commit sequence and avoid deadlocks
  • PGD Proxy has added HTTP(S) APIs to allow the health of the proxy to be monitored directly for readiness and liveness. See Proxy Health Check
  • In place rolling upgrades from PGD 4.x to PGD 5.x using Trusted Postgres Architect (TPA) 23.20 are now available

For more detailed information on all enhancements and fixes included in the release, please refer to the EDB Postgres Distributed Release Notes in EDB documentation.

Normally all major versions of PGD are released at the same time; however, for this release PGD 5 is being released early and the maintenance releases for PGD 3.7 and 4 will be later in the month.

We’d also like to remind all current customers that EDB Postgres Distributed is currently being offered in Preview mode as a managed service with BigAnimal and for Kubernetes and OpenShift with the EDB Postgres Distributed for Kubernetes operator, which are expected to be generally available later this month.

The following EDB Postgres Distributed related components were also released recently:

EDB Postgres Distributed 5.2.0 depends on at least 14.8.x and 15.3.x minor versions of EPAS and PGE and will pull these in automatically during an 5.x upgrade. The latest minor versions of EPAS and PGE 12 and 13 are not required, but it is always recommended to use the latest Postgres minor version available and generally considered less risk than not upgrading.

Deprecation Notice Reminder:

As previously announced, support for using EDB Postgres Distributed for multiple databases on the same Postgres instance is deprecated beginning with EDB Postgres Distributed 5 and will no longer be supported with EDB Postgres Distributed 6. As we extend the capabilities of the product, the additional complexity introduced operationally and functionally is no longer viable in a multi-database design.

End of Support Extension:

Because automated in place rolling upgrades from PGD 4 to PGD 5 using TPA have just been delivered with TPA 23.20, we will be extending the end of standard support date for PGD 4 by 6 months from August 20, 2024 to February 20, 2025 to allow customers a full 18 months to upgrade.

End-of-Support Reminder:

We recommend you update to the most recent software version. If you have not yet updated to the most current version, please note the end of support dates noted below:
