WHAT’S NEW

EDB is excited to announce the release of EDB Postgres Distributed versions 5.0.0.

As an EDB customer, you are receiving this notice before we announce it publicly. We will communicate the release to the public on February 28, 2023.

EDB Postgres Distributed (formerly known as Postgres-BDR) provides multi-master replication and data distribution with advanced conflict management, data-loss protection, and throughput up to 5X faster than native logical replication, and enables distributed Postgres clusters with high availability up to five 9s.

Highlights of this 5.0.0 release:

  • More flexible deployment architectures for single and multiple location deployments
  • Next-generation connection routing called pgd-proxy replacing the use of HARP and etcd
  • Unified synchronous replication configuration focused on durability and visibility of changes
  • CLI enhancements including Architecture and Configuration validation
  • CAMO performance optimization for up to 40% improvement
  • Integration with OpenTelemetry for trace information and metrics
  • Support for new EDB storage extensions that provide:
    • Faster access to clustered data
    • Increased scalability for normalized data models and foreign key lookups
  • Support for
    • PostgreSQL v12-15
    • EDB Postgres Extended Server v12-14 and v15 with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)
    • EDB Postgres Advanced Server v12-14 and v15 with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE)

For more detailed information on all enhancements and fixes included in the release, please refer to the EDB Postgres Distributed Release Notes in EDB documentation.

Deprecation Notice:

Support for using EDB Postgres Distributed for multiple databases on the same Postgres instance is deprecated beginning with EDB Postgres Distributed 5 and will no longer be supported with EDB Postgres Distributed 6. As we extend the capabilities of the product, the additional complexity introduced operationally and functionally is no longer viable in a multi-database design.
